Online Rules for Casino Nanaimo Guests

An evening at the casino downtown and gambling on a phone are different things, and British Columbia sets different rules for each. This page sets the online rules out plainly for anyone in Nanaimo.

The law

The provincial line on online play

In British Columbia, 19 is the gambling age, both at the casino entrance and online. Online options are limited: the only site where online gambling is legal in the province is PlayNow.com, which BCLC operates. No one under 19 may go into a gambling venue in BC.

On April 13, 2026, BC's Independent Gambling Control Office (IGCO) replaced GPEB as the province's gambling regulator. The IGCO declared on August 28, 2026, that any other online gambling site accepting BC players is operating illegally in the province. That includes a private online casino available to people in Nanaimo. Being 19 or over makes no difference.

No app

Apps that borrow the casino's name

Casino Nanaimo does not offer an online gaming app, and it has cautioned the public about phony app advertisements carrying its name. Any app or ad promising Casino Nanaimo games on a phone therefore does not come from the venue. To check something with the casino directly, visit casinonanaimo.com or call 250-753-3033.

Protections

Protections that stay with PlayNow.com

A BC resident playing on a private online casino receives none of the provincial protections. Neither Game Break nor PlayNow limits apply there, and the IGCO cannot take complaints about it.

BCLC runs Game Break, a voluntary self-exclusion program. A term lasts 6 months or 1, 2 or 3 years and stays fixed once selected. Its reach includes PlayNow.com along with BC casinos, bingo halls and community gaming centres. To enrol, a person can go in person to a gaming facility or meet online with a BCLC employee.

This guide

Where the Ad links sit

Nanaimo First Night works on its own: it is no casino, accepts no bets and opens no accounts. Paid links, each labelled Ad, appear on the home page in three spots: the header button, a block right after the opening panels and another block close to the bottom. All three point to one private online casino partner that pays the guide a commission. The partner may change, and it is never named.

This guide does not state that the partner is legal or regulated in BC. It has no tie to Casino Nanaimo, Petroglyph Development Group, Lahal Casino Management, BCLC or the IGCO. Inner pages, this one included, carry no paid links.
